According to Earl Nightingale, author of The Strangest Secret (a fantastic book which I highly recommend), poultry workers in Japan have the innate ability to determine the sex of baby chickens, whose gender is indiscernible. How are these workers able to tell, 99% of the time, males from the females? They just are.
In business, every company wants their customers and prospects to think just like those poultry workers: the customer should JUST KNOW who the best company is to fill their needs – yours.
Of course, that doesn’t happen. However, there are quite a few methods to increase your presence in the market so that customers and prospects may see or think of you more often. The more methods you employ, the stronger presence you create.
Most of you have heard the term Web 2.0, which applies to the new generation of social and business networking web sites (like this one) that have brought people closer together than ever before. Web 2.0 has become so diverse, influential and powerful, that there are marketing experts who specialize in this area alone. These marketing professionals know that the internet is the future – and present – of any business that wants to succeed.
So, what are you doing to make your business known in cyberspace?
Some Web 2.0 things you should be doing include having a small but powerful interactive web site, an Ezine or online newsletter, and at least one blog. The fact that you’re on this networking site right now illustrates your interest/intent to harness the power of Web 2.0.
Here’s the caveat: the objective of your efforts should be to talk about, and to, THE CUSTOMER. Don’t bother telling them about your business, most likely they already know, otherwise they wouldn’t be researching you. They want to know what you can do FOR THEM. Ask them questions, offer solutions, give them tips and ENGAGE them. If you provide your customers with solutions, they will provide you with an answer: YES.
